Q: Everytime I make a call, a little annoying popup comes up that says “Call Forwarding Active” with a button that says dismiss. I can either hit the button or it just goes away after a few seconds.

Verizon Wireless is reportedly talking to Google about using its upcoming mobile operating system. It has unveiled a bevy of phones for the holiday season and generally seems more hip overall–at least for Verizon. So why the change?
Two words: Apple’s iPhone.
There is no way Verizon, which arguably has the best network but a lackluster phone lineup, would be this aggressive if it weren’t for a potential AT&T/Apple iPhone threat (which by the way hasn’t materialized for Verizon Wireless yet).

Internet search engine Google is set to follow Apple in to the lucrative mobile phone market.
Google is reported to be just weeks away from launching its own handset, detailing a blueprint which would lead to a launch at some point in mid-2008. The search engine giant is believed to want to create its own mobile phone to harness all its various applications.

Telstra Corp. (TLS.AU) has had talks with Apple Inc. (AAPL: 187.00, +1.91, +1.0%) , which is planning to launch its iPhone handset in Australia next year, and is testing the device, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
Australia’s largest telecommunications company has began talks with California-based Apple, Telstra chief executive Sol Trujillo told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.

An industry expert today speculated that the Apple iPhone will cause a jump in mobile phone thefts when it launches next week.
According to Jack Wraith, chair of mobile phone trade body the MICAF (Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum) the iPhone is ‘iconic’.

If you want to make your iPhone feel more yours, and I don’t mean by just hacking it, you could take a page from Mark Hoekstra’s book. He modified his iPhone to be all black, super slick, and sporting an old-school Apple logo. It’s hot.

A group of developers has constructed a website which automatically lifts the software restrictions on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
The site installs and launches a software package which performs a procedure known as ‘jail-breaking’.

First came news that Apple was limiting iPhone purchases to two per customer. Next came word that the company had stopped accepting cash and gift certificates for iPhones. Now it seems that the company is tracking how many iPhones each customer is purchasing in an apparent attempt to crack down on unofficial resellers who are purchasing phones, unlocking them, then selling them to customers internationally.
